Excuse my tardiness with this post. Although I aim to debut my Substack musings on Fridays… I just happened to be enjoying a little down time with my daughter for her spring break. Her brother is in Japan on a school trip, and she is doing a darn good job at not exhibiting any jealousy (even though Japan is on her bucket list), so I wanted to reward her with some quality mommy and me time.

For our mini staycay, I decided to whisk her away to Laguna Beach, which is about and hour and half away and just happens to be where my parents lived for over ten years and where Patrick and I were married (twenty years ago this September).

She was too young to remember this magical little town, so the trip also served as a tour of our past. I drove her up to Mimi and Pop Pop’s old home and by the church we were married in.

Of course there have been so many changes… but the most notable for me? The restoration and redesigning of the old motels along PCH to give the much grander hotels a run for their money!

They are cute, cozy and MUCH more affordable if you are looking for a beach town vibe minus the four season prices.

One of these spaces opened up just a few weeks ago on April 4th, and is an offshoot of the Palisociety hotel group, called Le Petit Pali.
